Meet the 2017-2018 Metagenics Medical Advisory Board

At Metagenics, we’re continually seeking ways to help make personalized nutritional intervention the standard of care in the promotion of optimal health. This fall, we assembled a group of expert healthcare professionals for the inaugural Metagenics Medical Advisory Board meeting, which took place in Renton, Washington, outside Seattle.

The company’s goal was to gain insight and scientific direction from these expert clinicians. Their valuable input will help to guide the development of new Metagenics products, programs, and practitioner tools.

The Medical Advisory Board members were selected for their medical knowledge and expertise in personalized lifestyle medicine. They bring different perspectives based on background and credentials.

The 2017-2018 board members are:

Jeffrey Bland, PhD

Jeffrey Bland, PhD

Dr. Bland has been a leader in the nutritional medicine field for over 30 years. He is founder and president of the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute, as well as founder and Chairman Emeritus of The Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. Bland also served as the first Chief Science Officer at Metagenics from 2000-2012.

Adrian J. den Boer, ND

Adrian J. den Boer, ND

Educated in the Netherlands and the United States, Dr. Adrian den Boer is a board-certified and licensed Naturopathic and Chiropractic physician. He is fully certified as a practitioner of Functional Medicine. Dr. den Boer utilizes worldwide resources to prepare research and adjust nutrient formulas and recommendations as the “research engine” behind DBC Natural Holistic Health Center.

Kara N. Fitzgerald, ND

Kara N. Fitzgerald, ND

Kara Fitzgerald, ND received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She completed her residency at Atlanta’s Progressive Medical Center. Dr. Fitzgerald is on the faculty at IFM, is an IFM Certified Practitioner, and lectures globally on Functional Medicine.

Lyra Heller, MA

Lyra Heller, MA

Metagenics cofounder Lyra Heller, MA is an anthropologist who explores how different belief systems shape the patient-practitioner relationship and our innate capacity to improve health outcomes. She has helped create numerous science-based dietary and herbal formulas, was co-architect of the therapeutic lifestyle change program known as FirstLine Therapy Certification, and lectured globally on various topics.

Mark Houston, MD

Mark Houston, MD

Dr. Mark Houston is an associate clinical professor at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, adjunct professor at the University of South Florida Medical School, Director of the Hypertension Institute, and Medical Director at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He has received numerous prestigious awards and has authored seven bestselling books.

Joseph J. Lamb, MD

Joseph J. Lamb, MD

Dr. Lamb is a clinical consultant in Integrative and Functional Medicine. Having completed his Internal Medicine residency at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, he is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Holistic Medicine. In 2013, he achieved certification as an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner.

Richard Lindquist, MD

Richard Lindquist, MD

Dr. Richard Lindquist practices Family Medicine in Seattle, Washington, and is affiliated with Swedish Medical Center-Cherry Hill. He received his medical degree from University of Washington School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years.

Erik Lundquist, MD

Erik Lundquist, MD

Dr. Lundquist is a member of the American Holistic Medical Association, as well as the Institute of Functional Medicine. He attended Occidental College in Los Angeles and received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine, completing his Family Medicine residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

Deanna Minich

Dr. Deanna Minich is an internationally recognized health expert and author with more than 20 years of experience in nutrition, mind-body health, and Functional Medicine. Dr. Minich holds Master’s and Doctorate degrees in nutrition and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, Certified Nutrition Specialist, and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner.

Richard Mayfield, DC

Richard Mayfield, DC

Dr. Mayfield received his doctorate in Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University. He is also a clinical nutritionist, Functional Medicine specialist, and certified acupuncturist, as well as a certified BioCranial doctor. He is a director of the Center for Well Being.

Robert G. Silverman, DC

Robert G. Silverman, DC

Dr. Robert Silverman is a Chiropractor, clinical nutritionist, and author. He maintains a busy private practice as founder of the Westchester Integrative Health Center in White Plains, NY, which specializes in the promotion of joint health using Functional Nutrition along with cutting-edge, science-based approaches to common joint complaints.

Jennifer J. Stagg, ND

Jennifer J. Stagg, ND

Author of Unzip Your Genes, Dr. Stagg is a practicing Naturopathic physician and the founder and Medical Director of Whole Health Wellness Center in Connecticut. Dr. Stagg has appeared on network TV as a frequent speaker on optimal health and wellness. Dr. Stagg is a national authority in Precision Lifestyle Medicine.

P. Michael Stone, MD, MS

P. Michael Stone, MD, MS

Dr. Stone is a board-certified Family Practice physician in Ashland, Oregon. His undergraduate and graduate degrees are in human nutrition. He graduated from University of Washington and did his residency in Family Practice at UCLA-Ventura, where he was chief resident and completed a teaching fellowship in Family Medicine.

Filomena Trindade, MD, MPH

Filomena Trindade, MD, MPH

Dr. Trindade is a board-certified Family Medicine physician specializing in Functional Medicine and nutrition. She graduated from UC Davis School of Medicine. Today, she teaches in the fellowship at Metabolic Medical Institute, a Master's degree program at the Morsani School of Medicine, University of South Florida.
